CWA Blasts Gov. Christie’s Budget: “Reckless Attack on Working Families”

WOODBRIDGE, NJ --  New Jersey’s largest union representing public workers responded today to Gov. Christie’s irresponsible budget, which would impose major cuts to services New Jerseyans rely on without asking the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes.  Hetty Rosenstein, state director for the Communications Workers of America, said:

Governor Christie is asking for sacrifice from everyone except for those who can afford to give the most -- the barons and billionaires who looted our state and county over the last three years. His slash-and-burn budget is even worse than we thought.  His drastic cuts, which will cripple our hospitals, devastate our environment and cut all the services that New Jerseyans rely on, is irresponsible and unfair to the middle-class.

Christie's repugnant strategy of dividing middle-class families -- pitting worker against worker -- will fail.  By refusing to consider canceling tax cuts for the rich, he is choosing to protect Wall Street and the people who created this economic crisis at the expense of everyone else.

We know that tough times demand savings, and we are prepared to work with the Governor and the Legislature to continue to find ways to save taxpayers' money -- on top of the hundreds of millions in savings we have already agreed to.

But this budget does not share sacrifice  - it is another millionaires' bailout paid for by New Jersey's working families.
