CWA Shop Stewards Will Meet to Discuss Fight Back Plan
More than 800 of CWA’s state worker shop stewards are set to meet on Wednesday, January 20th in Trenton to discuss a plan of action to confront attacks being made on state employees, and to discuss a "Fight Back" campaign.
“It is all too easy for opportunistic elected officials to turn state employees into scapegoats,” said CWA State Director Hetty Rosenstein. “Blaming state workers for budget problems is a cheap way to grab headlines at best, and it creates an environment harmful to communities that will not bring New Jersey one single step closer to resolving the state’s budget problems.”
CWA’s leaders will be presenting a vision to promote an accurate portrayal of public workers, and mobilize state workers into action to promote a fair state for working families across New Jersey.
"We have a plan to fight back," Rosenstein said, "and we'll be arming our shop stewards to lead it back at the worksite."
The mobilization plan includes a Legislative Accountability Project that will include meetings with legislators in their districts, as well as Town Hall meeings with CWA members and other unions, worksite activities, Trenton and workplace rallies, and a line in the sand over maintaining a defined benefit pension plan.
"We have a long, hard struggle coming and we are preparing for it," said Rosenstein.
Stay tuned for more information about how to get involved and to get the truth about the state budget.
