As George W. Bush's Presidency came to a close, both the Democrats and Republicans rushed to the defense of a financial sector on the verge of collapse due to its own greed, by bailing out the biggest corporate banks on Wall Street to the tune of $780 billion taxpayer dollars.  That comes out to about $2400 for every man, woman and child in America, meaning if you've got a spouse and two kids, your family shelled out $10,000 to save the poor, struggling, Wall Street hedge fund managers and CEOs.

Last Friday, Governor Christie issued a press release announcing New Jersey had obtained $11.18 million from the federal government to help clean roads following the storm.  He asked for more money from the feds because, in his words, "federal assistance is critical to properly and fairly mitigate the financial impact of this major snowstorm on State and local budgets."

When it Comes to Corruption, Christie Says One Thing, Does Another

By now we've all heard the narrative Chris Christie wants us to believe: He's a tough-minded reformer who wants to crack down on corruption and stop abuses of public money.  Christie made a living on the campaign trail talking about getting tough on corrupt public officials and kicking them off government payrolls.  And on that account, I fully agree.  Corrupt officials make things incredibly difficult for the vast majority of public workers who play by the rules.
